NIRVA PIERRE
The year was 2008 Nirva Pierre participated in the initial Miss Haiti Pageant. though she didn’t win it, she came back two years later and became the queen. It was a fabulous year, Obama was to be the first African American President, Cuba’s President Fidele Castro retired after 50 years, housing markets suffered, the country was in a depression, unemployment soared, and Nirva Pierre became the Miss Haiti international. A welcomed event in her entourage, she set out to make the best of it.
She always wanted to be the center of attention as she wore attractive clothes when she was out and her hair was always on point. Our 2008 Queen was nothing to laugh about. She went to the Miss Haiti international in France, where she visited Paris for the first time. Like the other queens she attended numerous dinners where she met ambassadors and community leaders. The conversation would always come to what will you do for Haiti? She handled herself with grace.
A graduate of Florida Atlantic University she wanted to be the accountant to the world. This never came to fruition, so she immerse herself in what was familiar to her “beauty.” A licensed Cosmetologist, celebrity hair and makeup artist, Nirva has found pleasure in giving back to her community. For the less fortunate Haitians in her neighborhood, she will do their makeup at will for anyone who needs to go to their child’s graduation or a special occasion, free of charge. Beauty Therapy is the name of her business. The clients told others who told others and so on. Her patrons would talk about their problems while they took their service. They would feel grateful and better when they were done. Thus She calls herself the beauty therapist.
A singer and a dancer she freely gave performances at Moca Cafe, Particular Dinners and at Haitian gatherings with her beautiful carnival costume which looked like a thanksgiving turkey. A performance of Don Quixote’s at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts gave her the push she needed to show herself in front of a huge crowd. Although not tall enough to be a model. She did photoshoots for designers from Haiti. She performed “Moucho Woulo” by Eddy Francois” at a dinner and the guests could not stop talking about her. Nirva always knew what the precise crowd needed.
Time went by and she grew stronger. The mother of a handsome 4 year old son, she considers herself fortunate to have had him because his father died suddenly. He is always proud of his mom and shows it on various occasions. She goes to work day after day knowing whatever comes they will always have each other.
Currently Nirva is working on a podcast called “Beauty Therapy” and her product line is coming soon. Nirva Pierre’s year was special and so was her reign as Miss Haiti international.
